Saving Lives of Malnourished Children and Pregnant Women in Tharparkar Sindh
Most areas of Sindh’s Tharparkar district (Middle of the great indo-pak desert under privileged "out of sight, out of mind" region) are facing a famine-like situation and at least 193 malnourished children are reported to have died and there is a threat of more life loss with the current extreme climate conditions, causing Pneumonia and Diarrhea. About 175,000 families are reported to have been affected and some of them have been forced to leave their homes and move to barrage areas.
The area received no rain, except a little drizzle in the beginning of the current season. Almost all reservoirs have dried up and Thar is facing a famine-like situation. Tharparkar is hit by drought every two or three years, causing severe shortage of food, resulting in malnutrition, diseases and death. Children and pregnant women are affected the most.
There is no proper healthcare facility in the Mithi Civil Hospital where the 32 children have died because of malnutrition. A large number of sheep, camels, cows and goats have died in the arid, rain-dependent district.

Proposed Plan
SDI has the advantage of having members that have first hand experience of life in the most remote areas of Sindh. We are planning to set up medical camps for malnourished infants, children having Diarrhea and Pneumonia and Pregnant women in severely affected areas of remote Tharparkar.
Aim
Our aim is to benefit community who has not yet received any medical aid. A group of doctors and volunteers will be traveling from Islamabad to the effected areas. Within next 6-7 days the medical camps will be launched in effected areas where we will provide free treatment by quality male/female doctors including vaccines, medicines for Diarrhea and Pneumonia, high protein eatables for children and women, free diagnosis to pregnant women and
free preventive medical care will be provided to the affected men, women and children.
Locations
We have managed to contact the local authorities and relief organizations of Tharparkar and have Identified Three locations:
1- Mithi
2- Diplo
3- Islamakot
These locations are the farthest most remote areas where people are still waiting for food and Medical assistance.
